Compartimentalization in this way can always be nothing else than imperfect. Saying "the libertanians are this and that is a stupid generalization, but Bob left "the" away. This was probably unintentionally but I think there is an important linguistic discrimination we have to observe: Leaving away the article we may say "Krauts have no sense of humor" which could mean all, or most of, or some, but saying "The Krauts have no sense of humor" we express that there is not a single one having sense of humor.

I hope you might guess what I am trying to say - I am not sure whether the use of an article in this context is the same in English as in German.
