No Speech from Ms. Rice
Rice Backs Out of Rutgers Speech After Student Protests
Ms. Rice released this statement: “Commencement should be a time of joyous celebration for the graduates and their families,” the statement said. “Rutgers’ invitation to me to speak has become a distraction for the university community at this very special time.”
It should be noted that the invitation extended by Rutgers to Ms. Rice, a defender of free speech, had a $35K check tethered to it. So her speech was not really free.
I am sure this is customary for these luminaries to charge speaking fees but one would think that at an institution of higher learning, this would be considered an honor. Guess not.

"Protesters had argued that Ms. Rice should not have been selected as the speaker because of her involvement in the Iraq war during the Bush administration. Students staged a sit-in last week outside the office of the university’s president, Robert L. Barchi, to protest the speech, scheduled for May 18th." NYTimes
Sounds like the students didn't want to listen to this Bush sycophant on their big day. Can't say I blame them.

You get a lot better speakers with the honor of the thing, and $35,000, than you get with just the honor of the thing....
But Condoleza, whatever her qualities and accomplishments, is wholly soaked in Bush, and I'd walk out of any commencement she spoke at.

Ya they should of got Snooky like they did two years ago. That's much better than a 40 student protest to stifle speech for the rest of the school.

I congratulate the students.
The Bush regime was the worst in modern American history.
A company associated with the Vice President profits immensely from
a disastrous war engineered by the Vice President and his cronies.
Bush and his gang have their imprint on most of these vets with artificial legs.
