One Less Crazed Bible Thumper

Mack Wolford, a flamboyant Pentecostal pastor from West Virginia whose serpent-handling talents were profiled last November in The Washington Post Magazine, hoped the outdoor service he had planned for Sunday at an isolated state park would be a “homecoming like the old days,” full of folks speaking in tongues, handling snakes and having a “great time.” But it was not the sort of homecoming he foresaw.

Instead, Wolford, who turned 44 the previous day, was bitten by a rattlesnake he owned for years. He died late Sunday...

....Wolford was 15 when he saw his father die at age 39 of a rattlesnake bite in almost exactly the same circumstances.

This fellow should be a nominee for the Biblical Darwin Awards.

Lie down with snakes and never get up, ever again. I will say this about those Pentacostals, they are a bit more mainstream than one of the Presidential hopefuls.

I handled a rattler once. If handling means throwing rocks at it till it rattled, then running

Went to a Pentecostal service with a girl I was dating in high school. I had seen lots of Catholic masses, had attended Lutheran and Baptist services, but man, I never seen nothing like that before. People talking jibberish and asking you to believe they are under divine control.
This girl was raised without religion and "found God" with the Pentecostal's help. I had been raised Roman Catholic and wasn't convinced organized religion of any flavor was for me.
She told me I was a "man of the world" and not a man of God, and she needed to serve a man of God. I told her bye, have fun, I was looking for a partner, not someone to "serve" me.

You're just a thoroughly modern guy. Actually, I have certainly valued the 31 year partnership my wife and I have. She's more religious than I am, but she has been willing to attend the lefty Methodist church with me. Never seen a snake in the Methodist church, but someone did bring a live lamb to the nativity play one year.

Regards,

D-Ray

Hey, perhaps we could get D-Ray to send one to Westboro Baptist Church.
