Special counsel Robert Mueller has interviewed a cybersecurity expert who claims he was "recruited to collude with the Russians" in the 2016 election, Business Insider reported Tuesday.
Matt Tait, a former information security speci_alist for Britain's Government Communications Headquarters was interviewed weeks ago by Mueller, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
Tait claimed that he was recruited by a longtime GOP operative tied to the Trump campaign, Peter W. Smith, to obtain emails deleted from Hillary Clinton's private email server that they believed were hacked by the Russians.
Smith reportedly told people during his investigation that he was affiliated with President Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
In an article titled "The Time I Got Recruited to Collude with the Russians," Tait told Lawfareblog.com in June that Smith approached him during the campaign for help determining the veracity of emails Smith said he received from "dark web hackers."
"Smith implied that he was a well-connected Republican political operative," Tait wrote. He added that Smith believed "Clinton’s private email server had been hacked—in his view almost certainly both by the Russian government and likely by multiple other hackers too."
"From [Smith's] perspective it didn’t matter who had taken the emails, or their motives for doing so," Taid continued. "He never expressed to me any discomfort with the possibility that the emails he was seeking were potentially from a Russian front, a likelihood he was happy to acknowledge."
"We knew the people who had these were probably around the Russian government," Smith told The Wall Street Journal in May.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Americans to show more respect for their president in response to a question posed to him at the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi, Russia, on Thursday.
In his remarks, Putin called Americans' disrespect for President Trump a "negative" feature of the American democratic system.
"Inside the country, disrespect is shown for him. This is a regrettable negative component of the US political system," Putin said. He continued, saying that "one can argue but one can’t show disrespect, even not for him personally but for those people who voted for him."
"Mr. Trump was elected by the American people. And at least for this reason, it is necessary to show respect for him, even if you do not agree with some of his positions," he added.

Trump was elected by the thinnest of margins due to an antiquated electoral system (he lost the popular vote by millions), voter suppression, which is still pervasive in many Southern states, Russian meddling via social media ad buys, a nearly fact-free Fox “News”, and millions of dollars from untraceable sources. He deserves zero respect, though even that is more than a murderer like Putin deserves.

I'm thinking that message was for Russians.

The Russian oligarchs, businessmen, criminals etc., have parked nearly a trillion dollars outside of Russia. That money bought a lot, corrupted a lot.
The article below is instructive. Note especially how the outcome of the Uranium Deal investigation was soft pedaled.

"President Trump plans to spend at least $430,000 of his personal funds to help cover the mounting legal costs incurred by White House staff and campaign aides related to the ongoing investigations of Russian meddling in last year’s election, a White House official said.
The Washington Post reported last month that the Republican National Committee had spent roughly that amount to pay lawyers representing Trump and his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., in the multiple investigations." WP

He has to keep them from talking. So by him paying for their advocates keeps in the loop.
