It's a little resale shop that carries only soft goods, clothes, shoes, linens etc. Donor came in with several boxes of expensive designer stuff and wouldn't donate unless they took the speakers with it. We wandered in apparently less than an hour later, the speakers were sitting at the front door.

How much?
If you will just get them out of here you can have them.
Well, we should pay you something.
OK...5 bucks.
We would want this little box that comes with them, too.
OK...6 bucks, then. Just please, take them away.

Sure...thanks a lot.

And then as I was carrying the second speaker out, one of the ladies said, "Oh wait...the guy also brought in these two big, heavy things, my son put them on a shelf in the back for us. So for another 5 bucks we got the Adcom GFA-555 Amp, and the Adcom GFP-555 Pre-amp.
Just beautiful!

Nice style speakers. How do they sound?
Most of the people over at AK kept chastising me when i mentioned i was not using the KUBE. So, OK, I hooked up the KUBE through the tape monitor section of this Denon receiver I'm using in the living room. It sounded like I had thrown a Pendleton blanket over both speakers. The top end was gone. So I don't use the KUBE. They're as good as any mid sized pair I've ever owned.

Congrats Ike, I've heard the 105's and they sounded very good. I too have heard that the KUBE does not do much and you could probably sell that for a couple of bills if I am not mistaken.

Thanks...one of the way more tech savvy people over at AK suggested that there are some caps in the KUBE that have gone bad and need to be replaced and everything would be right as the mail. Also that it will fry the tweeters without the KUBE. But I'm pretty happy with the way these sound and for 6 bucks if I fry the tweeters I've already had way more than six bucks worth of enjoyment out of them.

I had a score of sorts earlier this month, a pristine McIntosh C38 for $700.

It's an early 90's Denon DRA-345R receiver that I picked up at the Goodwill a while back for under 10 bucks. I wanted something with a remote to use in our living room, and there it was on the shelf at GW.

Last Friday I found Rogers LS 5/9 studio monitors in our second hand store in good working and cosmetic condition. They actually belong to the manager, a very nice man. He has absolutely no idea about vintage audio gear and he wanted to sell them to me for 80 Euros.

I told him to remove the speakers from the store instantly and I will contact him next week to tell him how to sell these speakers best. And I told him that they are currently beyond my financial possibilty. A German Ebay seller offers one woofer (these transparent ones, you know) for 500 Euros.

You guys know how I am. I can't cheat somebody. Especially not this very kind person.

Have you seen the documentary on Jaco on Netflix? It is interesting and sad.
