What the hey! Sharpton may not have any credibility in the white community but he does with black Americans. Why not take advantage of that? As long as Sharpton stays "on message" it could be a good move.

If Obummer needs Sharpton to get the black vote, he's in worse shape than I thought.

He's not in particularly good shape with the black community. When Obama was elected there were frankly very high and rather unrealistic expectations among those who voted for him. Those expectations were even higher and even more unrealistic in the black community since Obama was "their" first president.

But again, I think you and Grumpy are looking at this through the lens of your (white) community. Whatever we may feel about Sharpton, his standing among blacks is pretty high. The "old guard" like Andy Young and Julian Bond have been out of the spotlight long enough so that they're pretty irrelevant. Jesse Jackson is a little bit of an embarrassment, plus he'd profoundly jealous of Obama. Minister Farakhan, "The Charmer", is positively toxic.

No doubt, you are correct. I'll let it go at that.

Did you see the tears flowing down Jesse's face when Obama made his appearance on election night? Those fell because it wasn't him.

Regards,
