Perhaps, but the back-story is pretty interesting. Apparently, his wife found out about him giving his mistress a house, a Bentley, a Land Rover and a bunch of cash. Then Sterling and his wife sued to the mistress to try to get this property back from her. The mistress used this recording to get back at him apparently. It's kinda like he stiffed an expensive hooker and she did what she could to keep her money. I have a hard time feeling sorry for him. BTW, he apparently played the same trick on a previous mistress.

Oh he's a creepy asshole, and I don't feel sorry for him. Maybe I'm just a tad freaked out by the nature of the 'instant karma.' As others have noted, his crime was talking nasty on tape. There are many worse crimes.

A presumably private conversation on tape also brought down a President (Nixon).

The constitutional right in question here is not freedom of speech (i.e., Congress has not made a law abridging Sterling's rights to say what he wants). It's freedom of association and the NBA, its players, coaches, and sponsors don't want to associate with Sterling and they used their own by-laws to exercise this right.
