Something we can agree upon!
I was going to post something similar. I lived in southern Indiana for a while. That region, southern Indiana and Kentucky, feels southern in some ways, but I found the people to be insular, xenophobic, and generally have a sour and bitter demeanor. Very unpleasant. The people in the NY Metro may often be brusque due to the pace of life, but as a generalization NYers are friendly, helpful, and want outsiders to like the area.
