Will Elon now shut this kid up now that he owns Twitter?
A 19-year-old built a flight-tracking Twitter bot. Elon Musk tried to pay him to stop.
Quote:
“Can you take this down? It is a security risk.”
@ElonJet is one of 15 flight-tracking accounts Sweeney has created, run by bots he’s programmed to parse the data and tweet every time a chosen plane takes off or lands. Each one follows a high-profile person, almost all in tech, including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. But Musk’s tracker is the most popular, with nearly 83,000 followers.
The account's popularity appears to have scared Musk. “I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase,” he told Sweeney in their DM conversation.

Tell that to someone who gives a F.
But unfortunately this Sweeney youngster is a huge Musk fan.

I think its beginning, whether the backlash continues remains remains to be seen and lets hope so.

Mediabrands — the media arm of the advertising behemoth IPG — sent a letter to clients Monday instructing them to stop advertising on Twitter until Nov. 7, the person said. The group’s high-profile clients include American Express, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, Levi Strauss & Co., and Spotify and the company manages more than $40 billion in advertising spend globally. The person declined to comment on whether any of the brands have suspended ads yet.

An $8/mo subscription fee is being proposed by Musk.
Quote:
Many on the platform echoed the statement of author Stephen King, who wrote in response to reports of changes that instead Twitter "should pay me".
Mr Musk wrote to Mr King saying, "We need to pay the bills somehow!"

Forget where I read/saw it, but it sounded like this has been a plan for awhile.

Original intent of social media was mining personal information which could then be leveraged for targeted advertising. Best way to accomplish this was to make the sites free to users and dupe them into thinking this is for their social benefit, thus the term social media. Most users were unaware of their true intentions.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS
[Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one?
Zuck: People just submitted it.
Zuck: I don't know why.
Zuck: They "trust me"
Zuck: Dumb fucks.
Sure, this was 19-year-old Mark Zuckerberg, not long after he had launched Facebook from the comfort of his own dorm room.

Now that social media has morphed into something beyond what they originally wanted it to be, a simple money making venture from a server(s), their costs keep going up and revenues are drying up with too many social media sites and a lot of people disavowing them. This is like the PPV version of social media.

That was not disagreeing with you, just letting you know I heard (probably NPR) that was EM intent at least a month ago. It was a discussion of all the games being played.
