yeah, that's right, I am still not done ranting

I am sitting here, in the livingroom, of a home built by by great grandparents for my grandparents. I look out the window and I see the home across the street. It was built by my grandparents for my uncle. Next to that, is the home also built by my grandparents for another uncle. I can also see....

All in all, my great grandparents built 3 homes (for children) My grandparents built 2 homes for children. Then of course, was the house my great grandparents lived in. More barns and out buildings than homes. All on one piece of land. (since subdivided of course)

Now, why is it you are supposed to kick your kids out of the house to make them stand on their own two feet? Honest, I just don't get it.

Lot's of 30 somethings living in the basement as if it's somehow a bad thing. It's a bad damned thing because the parents can't afford to build them a house of their own if you ask me.

Yeah, I, to this day never got a damned thing. Bought my own home/homes.

No financial help at all. Not a dollar. Not to buy a home, not to start my own business. Did I do OK? Yeah, I did.

Am I better off for it? No way in hell and frankly I think it is ridiculous to expect kids to just go out on their own with no support.

Do the non working investor class toss their kids out at the age of 21 to not face the embarrassment of having a child live at home? Do they not aid them in building homes?

Bah...

All brainwashed. Everyone.

I'm a big believer in giving young people the tools (e.g., education) to succeed and thereby become independent. It's best for them and best for their parents - a win-win as I see it.

I used to work in a black neighborhood in Queens New York.
This area consisted of a lot of individual homes...not high rise apartments.

What I noticed overtime that a lot of these homes were occupied by two, three, or four generations.

Grandma/pa owned the house and their sons, daughters, grand, and great grand children were all at home sucking on the owners' pension.

Is this an assumption or do you know for certain that these succeeding generations weren't contributing to the carrying costs and upkeep of the house?

It was a conclusion I had drawn because so many were not working or showed so little interest in organizing themselves.

Not saying you're wrong but was this an assumption too or do you actually know it to be the case?

Sounds like an immigrant community in which the extended family is the cultural norm.

I could be wrong since it is not scientific, but it is an impression drawn from
observation and interaction over a reasonable period.
