Your Home Town

When you give a tour of your town, what do you show?

Well, hometown is South Central L. A. so...The SST Endeavor at Exposition Park is pretty cool, the Natural History Museum is outstanding and Stone's Jamaican Food has the best goat curry and beef patties this side of Kingston, Jamaica.

Far too many sights to count around here (Baltimore/Washington). Tops among them, with credit given for modest crowds, are the National Museum of American Art (National Portrait Gallery), National Botanical Gardens, National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress, Arlington Cemetery (where Mom & Pop are buried), a stroll from Jefferson to FDR to MLK to Lincoln to Korean War to Vietnam to WWII Memorial, Udvar/Hazy (Air & Space Museum Annex at Dulles Airport), Great Falls, Phillips Collection, Gettysburg, Antietam, Harper's Ferry, Ft McHenry, Walters Art Museum, B&O Railroad Roundhouse, Babe Ruth House, Fells Point, Lexington Market, National Aquarium. That's just scratching the surface and many/most are free.

I generally avoid the crowded museums on the National Mall (except the National Gallery of Art, Botanical Gardens, and special photo exhibits at the Natural History Museum).

Dorfkirche Hausach, 11th century. With a tryptichon that is even older.

The best time to come and visit the Derby City will be hands down April into May. But you would have to like Horses, Bourbon and Blue Grass music tied events along with a wager or two at the track.

Our youngest son now lives in Louisville. We've enjoyed the Speed Art Museum, Muhammad Ali center and the Louisville Slugger museum/factory. Out of town a bit, we've enjoyed a few distillery visits, particularly Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill and Barton and horse races at Keeneland in Lexington.

We have the delta which is great for fishing and other water sports.

Lots of wineries.

And the very first A&W Root Beer stand.

😊

I have a feeling more people visit the wineries than the root beer stand. 😉
