The GOP leaders are afraid of Trump running as an Independent candidate and they probably should be unless Trump manages to alienate himself from the entire right wing electorate. That's a tall order even for Trump. Too many lightning rod rod issues that he can choose from.

If he does go independent, he'll split the crazies/ issues voters with the 'pubs and sink them for sure.

When he called Mexican immigrants rapists the GOP response was really muted.
When he insulted McCain the GOP condemnation was really strident.


If one did not know better you would think Trump was a Democratic agent sabotaging the GOP. One expects bigotry from a birther, but the lack of a strong rebuttal from the rest of the GOP will cost them next year. Hillary will remind voters that it took an insult to McCain for the GOP to come out against Trump.

I can't stand to even look at Trump.

Nonetheless I'm pulling for him all the way because he scares the rest of the Republican field so much.
