Just an anecdote about automatic...this happened on our series qualifying day at Pendleton.

We were qualifying with the M-14, and the selector on our weapons had been disabled so the thing could not be set to automatic. So we're at the 200 line firing sitting position. This guy a couple of positions down the firing line has his first 5 round magazine in and squeezes off his first shot. The rifle goes on full automatic, rips out all 5 rounds and the recoil rolls this kid over onto his right side. We were told later that the first round went in the bullseye, second round hit the top frame of the target and the last three off into space at increasing angles.

And...they wouldn't cut the poor bastard any slack on the rifle malfunction and he was a non-qual.

So what were the consequences of the 'non-qual?'

They just humilate you until you get it right.

Based on finnbow's report the instructor was incompetent. That's were the trail of negligence ended.
Perhaps but it began when someone put that child into the range to fire that Uzi. I am not even sure that I would like to fire one of those grease guns. With a barrel that short who knows where the round will end up.

No perhaps about it and I stand behind what you removed, which was the salient part of my post. The negligence did indeed begin with the parents and ended with the instructor, causing needless trauma to an innocent child.

BTW, an octogenarian does not need to be playing with fully automatic weapons, regardless of type.

Given the seeming desire of some criminal types to invade the homes of the elderly Florence's Colt 1911 and my Beretta Cheetah are automatic enough to defend the premises.

Brain fart on my part derails humor attempt. Didn't include "fully" since that was type in this thread's discussion. Edited my post, but cows are already out of the barn and feasting in the neighbor's field.

Semi-automatic should be sufficient for self-deputisation, I favor a double action revolver here tho' have one autoloader.
