WASHINGTON President Donald Trump asked then-FBI Director James Comey to shut down an investigation into ties between former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russia, an associate of Comey, who has seen the memo, said on Tuesday.

The associate told Reuters that the details of the document as first reported by the New York Times were accurate.

“I hope you can let this go,” Trump told Comey, according to the language of the memo, which the source confirmed.

The White House denied the report in a statement to reporters, saying it was "not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the President and Mr. Comey."

The memo was written by Comey immediately after his meeting in the White House Oval Office with Trump one day after Flynn resigned over his contacts with Russians.

For the hard core (25-30%) just about nothing will do it as long as Trump keeps fighting. Only when he surrenders or dies will the bond be broken.

They may 'see the truth,' but it won't matter, they still will stay loyal.

That example was in my mind. Others deserted, but the hard core kept fighting in utterly hopeless situation, until they heard Hitler was dead. That's the authoritarian leader-follower bond, and it's why we may have an actual fight on our hands here, in a while.

And much later than that. As a kid in Mannheim in the early 1960's, my landlord and his wife were still outspoken fans of Hitler. We called them "Altnazis". There were a lot of them. It is a shame.
