"On Tuesday, years too soon, we lost Andre Braugher, one of the greatest actors of his generation. There was always in his work, even in his comic turn as Captain Ray Holt on "Brooklyn Nine Nine," a solid core of infrangible dignity. You could see it at the end of "Glory" when, as the bookish private Thomas Searles, he steps forward to volunteer to pick up the fallen flag before the assault on Fort Wagner, and in his portrayal of Benjamin O. Davis, the leader of the Tuskegee Airmen, in the HBO movie of the same name. Lord, I wish I'd seen him as Iago. - Charlie Pierce
