I think you understand.

There's also an emerging (emerged?) "Crusader culture" in the military which has an abiding hatred of all Muslims and a degree of skepticism regarding the Jews. They don't think all that highly of "lukewarm" Christians either.
As near as I can figure, this all started at the Air Force Academy back in the late 1970s. It has always struck me as unlikely that such a culture would trace its roots to the "least military" of the military services but I used to live in Colorado Springs. On reflection, however, it does make sense from one perspective. The USAFA campus is located just north of the Springs at the base of the Front Range. As you drive past it on I-25, the most prominent feature is the huge and aggressive looking Air Force Chapel. It dominates the campus visually and, almost certainly, psychologically.
There's also a poem, "High Flight", which is central to the Air Force's mythology. It speaks of "slipping the surly bonds of earth" to "put out my hand and touched the face of God". So you see, these guys are really angels and on intimate terms with the Big Kahuna.
If this weren't so damn scary, it would be hilarious.
