The guy that Bill Maher quoted, Dean Obeidalla, responds -

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/09/19/bill-maher-has-the-ahmed-mohamed-thing-all-wrong.html

"Being criticized for my views comes with the territory (and to be honest, I like attention so I enjoy this.) Although this was the first time a so-called progressive came after me. Typically, it’s people on the right like Pamela Geller, the people at Breitbart.com, or the Fox News types."

Dunno if you caught the article link on our dominionists in another thread.

Steve, according to Mikey Weinstein, the Dominionist takeover of the military was already well under way when he was at the USAFA in the '70s. This would have been considerably before you enlisted. Did you personally see any evidence of this and, if so, did you also see an increase in the influence of these radicals during your career?

I enlisted in 1966 straight out of Mormon Utah, so a subtle religious bias may not have then been obvious to me. During my time in service I only recall an attitude of conservative intolerance in a an infantry unit with which I was quartered in the late 1970s, I commented on this in another thread.

Shit! You're as old as me! I was drafted in 1966.

So, you're saying an atmosphere of religious intolerance would have seemed normal to you then?

I remember your post about that infantry unit. As I recall, you mentioned being more or less taken under the protection of a SF guy and I can't help wondering whether that could happen now. Special Ops seems to be pretty much all "Crusaders" these days.

It reflects leadership, then the peer group echo chamber. It won't change until the assholes are gone.
SF Sgt Al Cornett was a super troop but an independent thinker as I recall, he fragged an officer in his chain of command in 'Nam, I'd assume, to defend his unit from incompetent leadership and got off light enuff after a year of incarceration, some at Leavenworth, to revive and complete an honorable career and write a book about his time in-country.
