Yeah, it's the f*cking weapon's fault.

I think if you looked you could find the percentage of all murders that are committed with "assault weapons". Not many. Now you will say one life is too many. Certainly true.
My point is the fixation on them when the vast majority of senseless murders are in inner cities and certainly not with "assault weapons".
The victims are just the wrong color to make the news.

The GOP doesn't give a flyin' fig about lil' White kids getting murdered in school so what makes you think they care about anyone else?

One cannot equate children being slaughtered in schools with 'general' murders within a population or worse yet, inner cities. There are a lot of factors that contribute to these murders, but not so in schools.

Children in schools are easy targets confined to their classrooms. It also affects their mental health having to sit in a classroom wondering when the shots are going to ring out. Even most adults while not intimidated will be weary.

Yes, the odds are very low for a particular class room, but in the minds of the children, all they can and will think about is "will they be next". And we expect these children to actually learn in this environment while they wonder, "what the hell are we doing here".

Keep this up and schools will be closing because no parent will want to send their children to a school.

The point is to greatly reduce one type of murder that compared to other types of murder, has a disproportionate impact on children, and that has a realistic chance of success through regulation of a particular class of weapon.

Doubtful given the number of assault weapons already in the possession of citizens. In addition, there will still be plenty of legal firearms available for a mentally unstable person to buy. Not to mention the assault weapons already sold that will be available at gun shows unless Congress can pass a nationwide resale ban. Or on the black market that is bound to spring up.

The legislation would ban the sale of assault weapons.

Current owners could keep their assault weapons but would not be able to sell them to a private party. I think it would make sense to have a Federal buy back program.
