Kansas continues to bleed revenue

The party of NO! (common sense)

Quote:
Two weeks after the utterly delusional Gov. Sam Brownback proclaimed in a radio interview that Kansas’ experiment in supply-side economics was “working,” the latest batch of numbers from the Sunflower State further put the lie to the utterly delusional governor’s assertion.

State figures released Tuesday showed that tax revenue came in $11.2 million below expectations in March, the latest in a string of lower-than-expected tax receipts.

Lawmakers must fill a $344 million revenue shortfall by June, and Brownback has moved to plug Kansas’ fiscal hole by slashing education funding, gutting the state’s pension fund, and cutting infrastructure. Additionally, the governor has proposed new sales taxes, which disproportionately impact the poor, in order to proceed full steam ahead with his income tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.

Just close all the public schools.

Hey at least you can just stick a saturday night special into your waistband and head off to Walmart and Starbucks without a permit! That is a big plus.

Maybe that dumbass Brownback should just sacrifice a few "outlanders" to "He who walks behind the rows" since praying to the Conservative God for "blessings" doesn't seem to be working?

Another rightwing moron, reveling in his own cognitive dissonance as he crows about the steaming pile he claims is gold. Lord, when will we finally be rid of these fools?

About the time our schools teach how to think and not what to think.

Kansas will allow concealed carry of guns without a permit
Kansas residents will be allowed to carry concealed weapons in the state without training or a permit starting in July under a bill signed into law on Thursday by Governor Sam Brownback.

Brownback, a Republican, said the new law will protect the rights of gun owners, while opponents said the measure poses safety risks.

Yikes!

There's gotta be an excuse of why Voodoo Economics didn't work successfully there. I'm guessing it's Obama's fault.

The only legitimate excuse is that it doesn't work anywhere.

Kansas Republicans To Tax The Poor To Pay For Disastrous Tax Cuts For The Wealthy
Author: Stephen D Foster Jr April 22, 2015 3:22 pm

It’s been three years since Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and his Republican gang enacted steep tax cuts for the rich that have ravaged the state. But now they think taxing the poor is the solution to the problem.

Kansas currently faces a budget deficit of $600 million in 2016. As a result of the conservative economic experiment; jobs have been lost, roads are going unrepaired, and education has been hit hard as schools close early across the state to stretch what little funding they have left.

Kansas’ economic woes can be blamed on the massive tax giveaway Republicans handed the rich but they refuse to admit they were wrong. Instead of fixing their own mess by simply repealing the tax cuts, Kansas Republicans are fast-tracking a plan that would punish the poor for the sake of allowing their precious gift to the wealthy to remain untouched.

According to the Washington Post, Republicans want to increase tax revenues and close the deficit by increasing sales and excise taxes. Poor people, of course, will be hit harder with these tax increases than the wealthy will be.

Poor and working-class Kansans already carry a heavy burden under the state’s tax system, compared to people of modest incomes in most other states. Among the fifth of the Kansas population with the lowest incomes, the average person pays 11.1 percent of what they make in state and local taxes, including sales taxes. Among the wealthiest one in every 100 Kansans, the average tax bill is just 3.6 percent of annual income, according to a recent report from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

People who make less are more vulnerable to increases in sales and excise taxes, since they spend more of their money buying basic goods and services they need to get by. This is especially the case in Kansas, where food is subject to sales tax. Kansans can receive a tax rebate for their food purchases, but those who make nothing or too little to owe income tax aren’t eligible. They pay the sales tax on food in full.

In short, rich people will merely pay pocket change while the poor are stripped of crucial income. Basically, Brownback is the equivalent of Prince John in Robin Hood taking from the poor to give to the rich.

And that’s not the only way Kansas Republicans have targeted the poor this year. Earlier this month, the GOP passed a bill basically banning poor people from living their lives. Not only are they prohibited from withdrawing more than $25 a day from ATMs if they receive welfare, they are banned from spending money at swimming pools, movie theaters, and on other businesses and recreational activities.

Trickle down will work.

We just need to double down on it and give it some more time.

Due to budget cuts schools are closing early which should make the future voters and tax payers of Kansas quite happy.
