Archbishop on religious freedom and the WH

Philadelphia Archbishop in a speech had choice things to say about Obama's White House and the erosion of religious freedoms in this country. Of course he is alluding to the freedom of worship extending outside of the homes and church. I could not continue reading beyond half the comments from his speech. Utter bigotry and nonsense. But then it is interesting on who published this and there is a piece in it from Pence too.

I often find posts from individual readers much more interesting and entertaining when something is this obtuse and extreme. So here:

Catholic Archbishop: 'Current White House May Be Least Friendly to Religious Concerns in Our History’

The source, CNSNews is a major wingnut site started by Brent Bosell who thinks the President "looks like a skinny ghetto crackhead". So, it's weird to see so many of the comments taking on religion and the religious.

Couldn't get through the fourth blue point. I think his observations about the church's decline in the US (first two blue points) are correct.

Oh, BOO HOO.

If people are turning away from the church it's because life under the churches thumb sucks. Piss off you wannabe puppet master of check mailing nincompoops and sycophant politicians. The only way anybody gets to experience freedom at all is when theocratic snake oil salesmen like you are marginalized into the sideshow curiosity you truly are.

Love,
Dave

Freedom of thought leads to freedom from religion and this is not good for organized religions. What was the true purpose of Religious Freedom and Restoration Act (RFRA) of 1993? The Supreme Court ruling on the Hobby Lobby case has set a very bad precedent for the application of "religious freedom".

'Beware the government taking power to regulate people's social relations and behavior. That's our job!'

(paraphrase)

He's right that the detailed meaning of terms like "justice, rights, freedom and dignity" become more free-floating in the marketplace of ideas with the waning of the religious-political consensus. He's wrong in claiming the authority to define them himself, for everyone.

" The early Church father Irenaeus said that “the glory of God is man fully alive.” I believe that’s true. And I’d add that the glory of men and women is their ability, with God’s grace, to love as God loves."

The above taken from his closing remarks illustrates where he has gone wrong. To hate and harm someone simply because their brains happen to be wired to incline them toward their same gender is not showing the love that we were asked to show toward our neighbors.

The Archbishop is whining because his church is waning.

The decline of the grab of the church is even worst in Europe.

The advent of TV started it and the proliferation of computers accelerated
the process.

Now Jerry Springer is available in the third world.
