The best thing we could do to help the poor, I've seen, is get more cops on the street in their neighborhoods. Hard to live a decent life when you can't walk down the sidewalk.
And I'm no friend of the police state.

I think you will find that the diet imposed by cheap food is the main cause of obesity. Even when the supermarkets locate in the inner city they charge higher prices than in the suburbs.
We maintain a healthy diet and I can tell you it is not inexpensive, we would just rather pay Good Earth than the medical profession.
Oh, at least the people in sub sahara Africa have an excuse, they are almost all piss poor and I would not wait around for Mugabe to help them out.

I have lived for about 17 years in the city and been through the neighborhoods of Queens and Brooklyn NY. I am really ambivalent about poverty issue. To me POVERTY is a strong word......more like dirt poor. The people here for the most part appear well fed, wear the latest, and have proper housing. The only group here whom one could really link with poverty were the Haitians, but over time they have applied themselves and have really changed their fortune......now own their houses and send their kids to good school.

Here the food and gasoline is cheaper in the poor areas. I know because I shop in the poor neighborhoods to minimize my expenses. Well, also, there are a lot of Thrift stores there. I'm beginning to think everyone shops at the thrift. Two weeks ago, I watched someone leave the thrift and hop into an Aston Martin. I would have liked to have a picture. This thrift was however close to La Jolla.

I need to start doing that again. Lately, I've been consuming more fast food and pre-packaged crap because of the time savings.

I feel bad for those folks. The spread and emergence of disease there is a problem for everyone. If you look at epidemiological maps of HIV, you'll see the spread right along the Kinshasa Highway.

I feel that a stiff tax on the impoverished would reduce this chosen lifestyle.
Obama, are you reading this?

Once again, the FACTS mean absolutely nothing to the liberals.
