Israel makes speech in favor of boycotts illegal

JERUSALEM — The Israeli Parliament on Monday passed contentious legislation that effectively bans any public call for a boycott against the state of Israel or its West Bank settlements, making such action a punishable offense.

Critics and civil rights groups denounced the new law as antidemocratic and a flagrant assault on the freedom of expression and protest. The law’s defenders said it was a necessary tool in Israel’s fight against what they called its global delegitimization.

Just how democratic is this action by the "only democratic nation in the Mideast?"

The Likkud faction is in reality a messianic one and as such has no love or respect for democratic niceties.

Oh, don't even get me started. What sort of "Democracy" can one expect from a Zionist state? I think I just puked a little.

Yeh, I guess they don't get the irony of characterizing the law as "a necessary tool in Israel’s fight against what they called its global delegitimization." Chit like this is what delegitimizes them.

It's not boycotts that are the primary threat to it's economy. It's the general condition of the neighborhood. Don't know if I'd be willing to take a month there now -- like I did when I was younger.

Kinda sad choice that they made. They need to fix their "occupation" problem.. Not dig in their heels deeper..

The laughable thing was we never heard word one about 'occupation, when Jordan 'occupied' the west bank.

Jordan didn't "occupy" the West Bank.. The Brits GAVE it to them...

Some difference eh? But that's EXACTLY my stand on the West Bank.. Why isn't Jordan involved in "getting it back"? If you answer that question -- then you'll understand a Palestinian claim to the land in the 1st place..
