Scientific America has already proved itself to be ANYTHING but about science. But unlike you, I've kept an open mind and have actually read it. Here's my observations:
“It’s just the economics keep moving in a direction that favors natural gas and renewables. Five years ago, it was about the older coal plants becoming uneconomic,” said Dan Bakal, senior director of electric power at Ceres, which works with businesses to transition to clean energy. “Now, it’s becoming about every coal unit, and it’s a question of how long they can survive.”
What renewables? The article didn't say. It does mention OLDER coal plants. I guess you didn't get the memo that Jim Crow Joe wanted to give China back its favored nation status while unzipping our economy by going back to the failed Paris Accords. I guess you didn't get the memo that China is the biggest coal user and coal producer in the world, and those are hardly clean plants.
Coal plant closures have been a feature of U.S. power markets for the better part of a decade, as stagnant demand, low natural gas prices and increasing competition from renewables have battered the coal fleet.
Works for me. I have investments in Louisiana natural gas, which by the way IS a fossil fuel.
What I'm amazed at is how NONE of you liberals here have even come close to mentioned mountaintop strip mining for coal. Look it up. It'll horrify you.
Michael Crichton once said that the free market will move us from one outdated technology to a newer one in time, just as it did from using horses to using oil for transportation.
No reasonable person denies that. What we have a problem with is a senile old man throwing THOUSANDS of breadwinners out of work based on a MYTH of climate change.
