I do enjoy, at times, turning the screw.

The crux issue which divides most of us is a chicken/egg issue: did the citizenry demand a certain kind of policing or did police inflame the citizenry?

I side with the officers in most situations having dealt with similar situations. Eventually, you just skip the Nice Guy step when it's obviously ineffective in a geographic location.

Sum? This is on the citizenry who condone, support, engage in and otherwise lend credence to criminal behavior as SOP.

To combat that requires a specific response.

Once you've eradicated rank criminality, Barney Five can police. Until then, in places like Ferge-nam, you need Vic Mackey.

Perhaps not the best choice of paradigm there, Zeke. The character of Vic Mackey is a complete sociopath who colludes with drug dealers (when he's not robbing or murdering them), who routinely tortured suspects and who even murdered a cop who was assigned to expose him.

Zeke is not constrained to conventional mores.

In the opening episode no less.

It's the problem with one-value mindsets. If 'security' or 'victory' are more important than anything, then nothing is wrong if you do it to try to get them.

I mentioned Barney Fife and Vic Mackey and nobody sees fictional goalposts?

That's intellectually interesting.

Your goalposts are both clear and revelatory. That you see any circumstances wherein Vic Mackey style policing would be indicated is more than a little disturbing.

I'm going to send Mackey to arrest you for using the word 'intellectually.'

So when you referenced my living in Mayberry, that was a joke, and you really consider St. Louis to be utterly cosmopolitan, Zeke? And all this time, I thought you were being a sarcastic ex cop who loves beatdowns.

Interesting also, that you chose to run with Barney Fife, with Schweich committing suicide and all that. Keep going to the well.
