White House lawyer Ty Cobb is exiting and will be replaced by Clinton impeachment attorney Emmet Flood.

Cobb, who served as the White House point person in dealing with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, is stepping down, according to senior administration officials.

He is expected to be replaced by Williams & Connolly partner Emmet T. Flood, a Republican defense lawyer who helped President Bill Clinton during impeachment proceedings and was interviewed by President Trump earlier this year.

(CNN) A political appointee at the Department of Health and Human Services has apologized and is now back at work at the department after it came to light that she spread conspiracy theories and shared an image that said "our forefathers would have hung" Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for treason on social media.

Ximena Barreto is a far-right political pundit who joined the Trump administration as deputy director of communications at HHS in December. She was placed on leave by the department in April after the liberal watchdog Media Matters reported that Barreto called Islam "a cult" and pushed the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which falsely claims that Clinton is part of a child-sex ring based at a Washington, DC, pizza restaurant.

While saying he didn't want to speculate where the leak came from, Cobb pointed to some people who may want to undermine a potential presidential interview with Mueller.

"I think it's very difficult to see who if anybody benefits from the leak of that other than people who have been trying to sabotage the possibility of an interview," Cobb said.

Right wingnuts have it wrong, as always. Mueller’s team doesn’t leak.

More Pruitt shenanigans, this one made me laugh out loud.

As Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt faces a seemingly endless stream of scandal, his team is scrambling to divert the spotlight to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. And the White House isn’t happy about it.

In the last week, a member of Pruitt’s press team, Michael Abboud, has been shopping negative stories about Zinke to multiple outlets, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the efforts, as well as correspondence reviewed by The Atlantic.

The circular firing squad is well-armed.

Vice president’s physician resigns amid ongoing furor over White House Medical Unit

Quote:
A White House doctor who raised concerns about Ronny L. Jackson, the president’s former physician and scuttled nominee to run the Department of Veterans Affairs, has resigned.

Jennifer Peña, the vice president’s lead doctor, left her position on Friday, according to a White House spokeswoman.
Quote:
Peña clashed repeatedly with Jackson, whose nomination to run VA was abandoned amid allegations of liberally prescribing drugs, drinking on the job and creating a hostile workforce, according to a senior White House official.
Remains to be seen as to why Jennifer Pena left her position; voluntary or forced out.
