Guys, this is what the real world looks like in manufacturing today. The current misconception of American manufacturing is that we're all lazy, overcompensated and sitting in the break room drinking sodas and threatening to strike if anyone asks us to do some work. I dunno, maybe such things existed somewhere at some time but I've never experienced it personally and I suspect that keeping that negative image alive has a purpose for certain people.

But, this is what is really going on where the rubber meets the road.

I learned with my time in production. Grinding teeth at night when sleeping and all that. The A$$ holes will FK U no matter what!

This sounds like the classic numbers game. Force the higher paid to accept lower pay. Classic Six Sigma (Jack Welch) thinking after all!

I suspect the do more with less mantra is still around. After hearing this once too often in a CPE course I pointed out that the ultimate expectation would be do everything with nothing.

Which, of course, cannot work. You don't create prosperity by employing people only in shitty paying occupations. Just because the employer loves the idea doesn't make it a good thing for the rest of society. And contrary to what some believe, those able to do the high tech, professional jobs competently are a minority. Remove all of the low and unskilled jobs and you create more headaches for the social safety net. Make it so that none of those jobs pay worth a shit and you cripple consumerism.

Come to think of it; That's what we have as we speak.
