Our inexperienced, but rich ambassadors

It's pretty sad the type of folks we frequently send overseas as ambassadors. Their sole qualifications seems to be high levels of campaign contributions.

For the most part, however, experienced and knowledgeable Foreign Service personnel are selected for trouble spots (probably because a rich campaign donor doesn't want to live in a place like Bangladesh).

Yep, it is estimated that an incoming administration makes about 7000 appointments. A stupid but time honored tradition.

Without old Ben Franklin quaffing fine French wine and several fine French ladies in Paris, I doubt that the French would have been as inclined to help us against the Torys.
