After saying Trump held back aid to pressure Ukraine, Mulvaney tries to walk back comments

https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...67e_story.html

Just un-freaking-believable. How easily they lie, without a second thought. I watched him flat out admit there was a quid quo pro, the money was held back due to the (imaginary) "server" with "Hillary's missing emails" on it. Lol. Ridiculous.

Now, after the WH lawyers were aghast at his stupidity, he's trying to walk back the admission. Nobody, it appears, has any competence whatsoever in this administration. MAGA!

Quote:
In a sign of how potentially damaging Mulvaney’s remarks were, Jay Sekulow, one of Trump’s personal attorneys, released a statement that said: “The President’s legal counsel was not involved in acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney’s press briefing.” Within the hour, Mulvaney issued his statement attempting to walk back what he’d said earlier.

Trump 'senses the limits of empire?' Sounds like something written by a theologian. Seems to say something, but actually points to things that aren't there. The 'limits of Empire' part is squishy--is the limit here, or there? Really, it's wherever the speaker or listener finds it useful for it to be.

And only faith can make one believe Trump senses anything.

The Kurds have been adjusted, you mean. I hope we didn't offer them the insult of a new, adjusted security guarantee.

And there's no such thing as 'the Syrians.'

This is “exactly what the emoluments clause was written to prohibit,” the legal analyst said on Fox Business.

‘Our Republic Is Under Attack From the President’

Admiral William McRaven: “If our promises are meaningless, how will our allies ever trust us? If we can’t have faith in our nation’s principles, why would the men and women of this nation join the military? And if they don’t join, who will protect us? If we are not the champions of the good and the right, then who will follow us? And if no one follows us — where will the world end up?”

“President Trump seems to believe that these qualities are unimportant or show weakness. He is wrong. These are the virtues that have sustained this nation for the past 243 years. If we hope to continue to lead the world and inspire a new generation of young men and women to our cause, then we must embrace these values now more than ever.”

“And if this president doesn’t understand their importance, if this president doesn’t demonstrate the leadership that America needs, both domestically and abroad, then it is time for a new person in the Oval Office — Republican, Democrat or independent — the sooner, the better. The fate of our Republic depends upon it.”

Sense is the right word. He is not Ron Paul.

However he has been pretty consistent:
Countries, such as Germany, must increase their share of the cost to their defense and protection.
Do not look to the US for heavy lifting. It just cannot afford such, having been gutted by unfair trade deals, weighted down by interminable wars and
far flung military commitments/bases.

54% say it's a bad move leaving Syria;

https://news.yahoo.com/friends-trust...c=bell-brknews

I bet if the same people had been polled when we entered Syria, they would have said we should stay out.
