Well, we are way smarter than a slug.
Don't know that we're any more important than a slug, and I imagine that if slugs were capable of rational thought they would figure we are more trouble than we're worth.

I have met a few folk that might make you ponder that statement a bit.

Ever read Kurt Vonnegut's "Galapagos?" It's sort of up your alley.
I'm more important than a slug. I regard this as self-evident and inarguable. You may not agree of course, and i can't prove it to you. But I consider you much more important than a slug, too. Can't chat with a slug.
Happiness is other people. (Sartre was only half-right).

I've never read it, although it sounds interesting.
And as far as I'm concerned, I'm no better than a slug...although I live in a nicer house and have a better line of bullshit.
If anything, the slug is better off than I, as he has no need or desire for either.
And personally, I think Sartre was more than half right. He just offered a dialectical theory which appeals more to introverts such as myself.

You indeed have more desires, and more suffering, than a slug. But you also have, from time to time I trust, satisfactions and joys that a slug will never experience.
We are programmed to accentuate the negative--there may be survival value in that. But one can easily take it too far. You may be more conversant in Sartre's work than I am--does he ever address the converse of "hell is other people;" my proposition that 'happiness is other people' also?
BTW, I'd class myself as an introvert also, but I've noticed, for one thing, that I start getting weird thoughts if I'm alone too much....
