Pence didn't say outright that he advocates killing Social Security. Instead, he took the course I reported on just last week. That's the Republican and conservative habit of employing plausible-sounding jargon and economists’ gibberish to conceal their intention to hobble the program.

But make no mistake: Diverting any significant portion of Social Security taxes into private accounts would make the program unworkable, funnel untold wealth into the hands of Wall Street promoters and leave millions of families destitute.

It's amazing that Pence would air out the private-account idea now, after a year in which the stock market returned a negative 23% (inflation-adjusted, as measured by the Standard & Poor's 500 index).

It was just such a dose of reality that helped kill the same proposal when it was put forth by President George W. Bush in 2001; Bush abandoned the idea in 2005, after the stock market return for 2001 to 2005 came to negative 2%, including two years of double-digit losses.

Same old unworkable "solutions" from the Repubes. Why do so many continue to vote for these fools?

In a jab at Mr. McCarthy, she said: “I haven’t seen someone assume that many positions to appease the crazy Republicans since Stormy Daniels,” referring to the pornographic film actress who said Mr. Trump had paid her $130,000 not to talk publicly about an affair she said they had.

“Let’s be honest: We all knew Matt Gaetz would never let the vote get to 18,” she said, adding that Mr. Gaetz would have been in attendance if only he could have found a babysitter — “to be his date.” It was revealed in 2021 that Mr. Gaetz was the subject of a Justice Department investigation over allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him. (He denies the allegations and has not been charged with any crime.)

“Really, who lies about playing college volleyball? Like, who does that?” she said of Mr. Santos, who, among many other things, claimed to have been a member of Baruch College’s volleyball team. “If you’re going to lie, at least make it about something big, like you actually won the 2020 presidential election.”

Hard for me to believe she wrote these lines, but even so, pretty sharp and witty. I don't trust her though, she reminds me of Susan Collins pretending to be an independent thinker yet voting with her party every time.

She is in a district that the SC Supreme Court found to be illegally gerrymandered to dilute the black vote ( though too late to effect her last election). Her next election will be in a redrawn district much less favorable to her. Hence her swing to the middle.

The problem is, these guys can't avoid drinking their own kool-aid. It's kind of how people work. Goebbels was not just a cynical mastermind manipulating the mob, he was first and always a true believer in Hitler. So the crazies don't seem repulsive to them or anything, it's just a matter of whether they are in a position to win or not.

As child labor law violations have been on the rise in the US, some state legislators are pushing for changes at state and federal levels to roll back protections in what some see as a threat to return child labor to the country.

The laws aim to expand permissible work hours, broaden the types of jobs young workers are permitted to do, and shield employers from liability for injuries, illnesses or workplace fatalities involving very young workers.

Child labor law violations have increased in the US, with a 37% increase in fiscal year 2022, including 688 children working in hazardous conditions, with the number likely much higher as the recorded violations stem from what was found during labor inspections.
