Colorado passes sweeping police reform bill
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/colorad...e-reform-bill/

All local and state police officers must wear body cameras by 2023

Body camera footage must be made public

Chokeholds are prohibited

Shooting at fleeing suspects is prohibited

Deadly force can only be used if a person's life is imminent danger

Police must report every instance in which they stop someone who they suspect of a crime; they must also include that person's race, gender, and ethnicity

Police must report other officers for wrongdoing

Officers can be held personally liable for damages up to $25,000 if they are found guilty of violating an individual's civil rights

————————

Perfectly sensible reforms for out-of-control cops.

In its wisdom, the Colorado legislature has basically taken police officer employing municipality relations out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Ok so deadly force can be used if a person's life is in imminent danger. Hmmm sounds like it's still up to the cops discretion to shoot a fleeing suspect or use a chokehold.

Having body cams on all cops and making the footage available to the public could be good.

Making a cop themselves liable to $25000 for civil rights violations not sure about since our courts can be wishy washy.

Some things are good some I'm not sure about. One issue I see are cops being sued because a suspect does get away and causes harm to someone else.

I'm not advocating or discounting any new laws currently being made, yet. Just adding another view to look at.

Cool.

Succinct enough it could be print on the back side of a business card, the same card that has the Miranda Rights spiel on the front.

My Family Saw a Police Car Hit a Kid on Halloween. Then I Learned How NYPD Impunity Works.
ProPublica Deputy Managing Editor Eric Umansky’s family saw an unmarked NYPD cruiser hit a Black teenager. He tried to find out how it happened, and instead found all of the ways the NYPD is shielded from accountability.

I don't believe all cops think that way.
