Lame response, but I'll assume from this that you approve of CNN's (to be kind) lapse in journalistic ethics. Figures.

CNN says its reports on Trump intel documents different from BuzzFeed's

(Reuters) - CNN, the news division of Time Warner Inc, said on Wednesday that its decision to publish "carefully sourced reporting" on unverified intelligence documents concerning Donald Trump is "vastly different than BuzzFeed's decision to publish unsubstantiated memos."

CNN's statement came after President-elect Trump called the news outlet "fake news" and refused to take a CNN reporter's questions at a news conference.

Not at all Carl. The fact remains that CNN chose to engage in journalistic malpractice, while their peers in the mainstream press chose to hold fire on reporting on documents whose sourcing and credibility they couldn't authenticate.

The "excuse" that CNN offered after the Trump news conference, which is the same rationale they gave when they first reported the story, was exactly what you quoted above: "Well, gee, we told folks that we couldn't authenticate the documents." Sorry, but long-standing journalistic practice is that if you can't verify a source, a story, or documentation, don't use it in a story. Period. The NY Times and others looked at the same information and, per the post above, stated: “We, like others, investigated the allegations and haven’t corroborated them, and we felt we’re not in the business of publishing things we can’t stand by."

The NY Times made the right decision. CNN made the wrong decision. CNN now gets to live with the consequences of that decision. They're gonna need more towels to wipe the egg of their faces.

The report was given to McCain who gave it to the FBI (who he said he thought had it already as many others did (it wasn't government-classified material.)) The intelligence community thought the report was important enough to be a part of briefings to Obama and Trump. These facts alone make it newsworthy, whether it's contents have been fully verified or not.

Any discomfort Trump has experienced by virtue of its release is fully deserved, given his history with birtherism and the spreading of gobs of ridiculous, provocative fake news (much of which formed the genesis and subsequent foundation of his campaign). You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

CNN and Newsweek are Soros driven news outlets.

Well, there's a post brimming with logic and profundity. So to summarize, you think it was perfectly appropriate for CNN to sacrifice their journalistic ethics - whatever shred they had left - just to spite Trump. You think its just fine for a major news outlet to run with with an unsubstantiated, salacious story if you think the subject of the "deserves it".

Just brilliant.

Any scandal, any corruption regarding Trump will be labelled "fake news". And his sheep will eat it up. These the same idiots that think Obama is a Muslim.

And why not...the news outlets are horrible.

Even NPR sounds like CNN.

CNN never published the contents of the salacious report. They just wrote about it being released by BuzzFeed and provided context to the release. The journalistic ethics are indeed debatable, as was the media printing the material stolen by Russia and released by Wikileaks (with Trump cheerleading the effort) . Trump being a Putin tool is less so. Perhaps releasing his tax returns would help clarify things, as might a FBI investigation of the Trump campaign's coordination with Mother Russia. This story is far from over.
