Used to have a square stern Coleman I dubbed "The Pig". Learned how to float Missouri's rivers in before I purchased the boat above. I never had an engine on the pig but I sure wish I had sometimes as it was big, heavy and not easy to maneuver. When I got the boat above I could actually spin it around in one spot as it was so light and nimble.

The floating rule was a canoe is a one man craft and you better be self sufficient. From food to shelter to crap hole shovel to loading and unloading your own boat, you better be able to do it on your own. Boat above is 15'10" and less than 70 pounds.

Oh, we used to go once a month, every month. Rain, snow, cold....nothing stopped us. The old saying was "put the boats on the water and the sun will shine" and it did 90%+ of the time. I actually preferred winter floating as it was so quiet and peaceful. No one else on the river. All the leaves off the trees allowed you to look into the forest. The animals would be drinking at the river and never notice you slipping by......good times

...and when the wind decided to blow upstream, which seemed to be quite often, you got a good workout in the slow stretches, just digging your way downstream.
