Katrina Overload

If I see one more "10th Anniversary of Katrina," "New Orleans - Heart of a City," or "Rising from Disaster - The People Rebuild," I will toss the TV out the window.

When did the 10th anniversary of a storm warrant coverage normally reserved for real time plane crashes or new wars?

Is there nothing more pressing in the world that air time and journalistic effort are free to produce 50 "special reports" on a storm 10 years gone? Does it seem a little overboard?

I'm not callous - I rode out Hugo here and it wiped us out - but I don't want to see multiple heartfelt anniversary shows commemorating the event.

I would rather forget it.

You could have skipped right to the last line. That's the story.

To speak of a 'ten-year-old storm' is to try to sweep it under the rug. It was a messy, complicated and shameful disaster, with lots of connotations of racial and political faults, mistakes, and wrongdoing. It's the kind of memory that makes one want a drink.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph - is there nothing to be taken at face value here? Does everything written have to have some dark political or psychological motive?

I watched the coverage 10 years ago - now it's on every channel again ad nauseam.

I am simply tired of seeing the same thing over and over. That's it.

You could have skipped commenting - no story at all.

Face value is mask value, often enough.

I was in Hugo. It was nothing compared to Katrina. Katrina caused 1800 deaths, Hugo 35.
My memory tells me that the actual deaths in Charleston was not very high. I saw a lot of damaged and destroyed buildings but did not see a whole city forgotten by the Federal Government. There was certainly no flood compared to New Orleans.

Quit trolling.

Posting a thread about being tired of watching the same story over and over is trolling?

What is wrong with you?

I don't think that it is trolling, but I do think it lacks a recognition of the nature of the site on which it was posted. Katrina was a particularly emotional political controversy. This is a political website. Mentioning Katrina necessarily brings up the political controversy surrounding it. When the post is dismissive of the event, and by implication the surrounding human elements, it will draw fire.

Regards,

D-Ray

I do understand that, and of course expect people to express their opinions about the disaster.

I was as clear as possible, I think, that my particular grievance was with the piling on by the media - I made note that having been through a hurricane I understand the devastation.

I posted in off topic and was not ambiguous - assigning some sinister motive to a rant about the media seems a little off the deep end to me.

Anyone catch GW's little act? The imagery it conjured up was a moron dancing on people's graves.
