That 2% of GDP is a ruse to aid the Military Industrial Complex. Sure Germany can supply their own military but countries like Luxemburg that has no defense industry - where are they to get guns, tanks, planes, etc. ?

The 'official' reason given to Ms. Merkel's visit is to teach Trump how to deal with Putin. Doesn't Trump already have a core group of advisors who are personal friends with Putin including the Secy. of State? What a crock of nonsense.

I think she is worried about the huge VW operation (now includes Audi) in Mexico and Trump's threatened tariff's. After all VW has lost a shitload of money from the software trickery.

All she wants is to hear him pronouncing her first name correctly.

Americans would buy more American cars if they weren't crap. It is that easy. Just built cars that are at least as good as BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen. And don't forget to use correct emission software...

Chris, you should post this on the Wheels, Wings...... forum on AK. Since you already have been voted MOY, you have nothing to lose.

Chris I am driving Florence's year 2000 Chev Impala LS and it rides like a dream, looks as good as new and I will probably drive it another 17 years if I live that long. A 3.8l V6 that gives me 30 MPG on the highway, why would I give it up. They trust it so much I don't have to get the emissions tested each year.

I agree a way to support the MIC.

However countries like Luxemburg should look to European states like Germany, France and UK. It time to give US tax payers a break.

BTW the Germans sold the hapless Greeks a lot of armaments, especially Tanks.

Well...yes, a lot of them are. Chrysler and Jeep constantly dominate the "do not buy" and low quality lists and my issues with GM products have been consistent through the years. (and their shops are notorious for not giving a shit) I have a newer Ford on which I have high hopes, I've had it 7 years with absolutely no issues and it's still tight as a drum. I'll never buy another GM though.

Ahhh... my friends... don't be angry about my generalization...take this:

"Americans would buy more American cars if a lot of them..."

However - you may get what I'm trying to express: it is up to the American automobile industry to improve their competitive ability.

Americans who want to buy German luxury cars will not stop to do so just because of higher import taxes.
