A talking-point that makes no sense at all. Trump isn't planning a rest--adding $50 billion to the defense budget is a rest?

Trump just does not believe in international cooperation in general, and someone seems to have secured his opposition to NATO in particular....

So are we switching alliances now that Warsaw Pact is dead, because that's what it is beginning to look like. May be there will be a remake of 'Russians are coming".
The real statement is that the old guard is still focusing on Russia, when in fact Russia is a weak state. Russia in no way can compete with the US.

The country that is punching the US with soft power in every corner of the globe is China.

The old guard and One World Order boys are mad because they tried to control, balkanized Russia and failed.

Needs a rest from a wealthy Europe. Let The Germans take the lead in their area is solid argument.

It's still thinking in metaphors. The US is not a big person who needs a rest. The question is whether we want to continue to support Western Europe, or are we deciding they are not so important to us.

Policy is not driven by fatigue or other feelings!

China is very much dependent on their trade with the US. If we devalue the USD, we can send their economy into a tail spin, which is why they keep buying our treasury notes.

Russia OTOH can cause serious damage to western political arena as they have done in helping install Tweeter Don here in the US as president. Germany and France are already weary of Russia and have stepped up their vigilance.

The fact is that they can easily support themselves.

It's an alliance and one does not just walk away.

Do you really want European nations building up their militaries to much higher levels, with an eye to being able to deter Russia without American support? Can you think of any possible downsides to this rearmament?

Have you checked the places where the Chinese have out maneuvered/replaced the US in trade and economics and are installing long term soft power. e.g Africa, Australia. China has a One Belt, One Road initiative which has one of its aim--the out punching of the US.

Germany has self inflicted with open borders and France's colonial legacy came home. Now they are shouting Russia!

You really believe that BS that the Russians installed Trump. Harry Reid certainly does not.

Trump came to power largely because the Republic rank and file became fed up with its established leaders, and also because of the magnificent work done by the Republicans in gerrymandering. (The Dems went to sleep)

You cannot use Russia to explain 3 million popular win yet losing the electoral college.

The point is not 'Russia gave Trump the win." That is hard to prove or disprove. The margin in Penn/Mich/Wis was razor thin. Flip any factor you can think of, and those states could have flipped.

The point is, Russia tried. That's more than bad enough.
