Wherre is the religious right

Has anyone noticed how much less prominent the religious right seems to be in this election cycle? Sure all of the leading republicans showed up at the limited family values summit or whatever it was, but they really seem to have taken a back seat to the tea partiers as the dominant voice in the right wing right now. The biggest splash a right wing preacher made this year resulted in nation-wide ridicule. (And yeah, I know that Sister Sarah spouts plenty of conservative religion, but she really worships at the alter of the holy dollar.)

There has been plenty of Muslim bashing going on, but that seems more like tea party anger than religious zealotry. Similarly, many of the people trying to label President Obama as a Muslim are using that as a substitute for racial comments. Even Newt Gingrich, Mr. Family Values himself (where's the puke icon when you need it), is focusing more on Kenyan anti-colonialism.

What do y'all think?

Regards,

D-Ray

Maybe some of the religious folk are quietly examining the monster that has been spawned by the far right and wondering; "WTF is this?" ? I have a couple of friends that are Pastors, one Methodist and one Baptist, and that's exactly what both of them will tell you.

I assumed they all simply formed the Tea Party? That woman got the Republican candidacy talking about how bad wanking was, didnt she? Or maybe there are usually more people making such comments? I dont know, I dont pay too much attention to American politics unless it is on the news over here. I suppose I should make more of an effort.

The GOP can only ride one pony during this race, otherwise they'll confuse the electorate. They're sticking with the Tea Party this time around because that's where the energy is. Plus, they have the religious right in the bag (for the most part). They can only kowtow in one direction without confusing themselves.

You mean - I was just pretending to be a wonk? Well don't that just beat all.

At least I'm not a part of the one percent that lies about it.

Yes, according to Christine O'Donnell "wanking" is a form of adultry. And yes, we have people here who would like nothing more than to be able to police the goings on in our bedrooms and criminalize anything that doesn't fall within parameters set forth by the Christian instruction manual. Then they will turn around and vehemently defend our right to privacy and self determination without governmental interference. (Provided we stay within the aforementioned parameters, of course.) I call this "irony" which really twists their knickers. The folks on the left have begun to refer to these people as "Rightwing Taliban".

Here is an excellent example of that aspect of it;

You should pay more attention to American Politics, it's very entertaining.
Scads of jesters and imbeciles to laugh at.
