No one is stopping them, you can send letters via FedEX or UPS, cost you an arm and a leg, but you can do it.

Steve Forbes is about as far to the right as you can get, but maybe he does not want to stick his head in the sand like all the others.

Not according to some recent pronouncements by His Holiness Pope Benedict, he has spoken out against profit for the sheer sake of profit.

You see now I am confused.

It seems to me it is the same folks that support anti Christian policies are the ones that bring up Christ and stuff. What's the deal with that?

They are not allowed to deliver to your mailbox.

Now, new developments are required to have all mailboxes clustered by the entrance. If you want door delivery you're out of luck because of the monopoly the USPS has.

And if the Post Office was efficient, why does UPS even exist?

UPS and Fex Ex exist because sometimes you have to get something there faster than the USPS can get it there. So for a LOT more money they'll take care of it. But really, I can't imagine anyone really believes that the USPS isn't amazingly efficent and inexpensive. For pocket change you can get a letter across the country in a few days with a very high level of assurance that it will actually get there.

Son of a bugger Eddie, Once again I agree. I've had nothing but positive experience with the USPS. Hell, they even deliver you the packing boxes for free. UPS and FedEx can kiss the fattest part of my butt. I've had enough stuff destroyed by those gorillas to last me a lifetime.

pete, my advise

find a different tree to bark up.

Governments is generally more efficient than private sector.

Both draw from the same labor pool but one has to make a profit, one can break even.
