I can't imagine how hot the barrel got after rapid firing of five 30-round magazines. I have a Remington Model 7 (a lightweight sporter) and its barrel gets really hot after firing 10 rounds in relatively quick succession.

The questions:

How it came to be issued.

And why it took so long for an investigation.

This is idiotic criticism and a denial of physics, there are reasons constant fire weapons have barrel cooling systems or duty cycling multiple barrels.
These are not those.

Firing five 30=round magazines as quickly as possible is a ridiculous duty cycle for a lightweight assault rifle. And if one somehow was in a tactical situation where such a spray of fire was wanted, the accuracy of the weapon afterwards would not be one's major concern. The report is an unfair attack, IMHO.

Military procurement, and investigations of same, often involve political or business agendas.
