I'm not arguing that the Flag isn't racist, it's racist as Hell.

It's just that after the Civil Rights movement, it became even more so IMO.

Old Fashioned values?

I dunno.

Like I said, I could never make it past the intro.

It looked pretty fucking dumb to me.
A celebration of ignorance - as is most television fare.

I stick with Netflix and Hulu - will watch the Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, some British series we like, and any good movies/documentaries that pop up (and those are few and far between these days).

I actually saw a black woman in an Andy Griffith Episode!

Check out the crowd behind Barney starting at about the 4 minute mark!

There were some pretty good TV comedies back during the time the Dukes of Hazard was airing.

Some of my favorites were WKRP, Barney Miller, and Taxi.

I did like Rowan and Martin's Laugh In - so over the top it was funny.

But I was young then . . .

Sock it to Me!

I remember a boxing match between Wilt Chamberlain and Sammy Davis Jr.

Just noticed how white the cast was. (edit)

How about the one between Gary Coleman and Ken Norton?

My sisters used to hit the floor and dance like idiots when American Bandstand and Soul Train came on.

Me - no dancing - but a good opportunity to sneak in their rooms and create chaos.

I'm a little older than you and I grew up in a southern state during Jim Crow. I've eaten at Whites Only lunch counters, drunk from Whites Only water fountains, peed in Whites Only restrooms and fished in the lake at Robert E. Lee Memorial Park (which still exists and is still so named).

This southern state was Maryland, a slave state though it stayed in the Union. Harriet Tubman was enslaved in Maryland. John Wilkes Booth was a Marylander. Get away from Baltimore or the DC suburbs (some of them) and you're in the South..... still.

Southern culture and all its iconography is racist to the core.
It surely must piss off my Republican neighbors here in western Howard when my black friends drop by then.

Most of our TV watching is BBC in America onn the local PBS channels. We used to watch NCIS because we like Pauley Perrette (Cote de Pablo is not hard on the eyes either) but it now comes on too late. TV can put me to sleep faster than anything.
