It seems the GOP has pretty much decided to punt and accept Obamacare as it is (or with some possible tweaks).
By this time, it's becoming increasingly clear that Republicans have not repealed Obamacare because a lot of Republicans do not want to repeal Obamacare.
They don't even want to sorta repeal Obamacare. The bill currently on the table, like the bill pulled in March, falls far short of a full repeal of Obamacare. And yet Republicans still cannot agree on it.
About a week after the first Obamacare repeal failure, a House Republican, speaking privately, said the difficulty in passing the bill was not a parliamentary problem involving the complexities of the Senate and reconciliation. No, the lawmaker said, "It is a problem that we have members in the Republican conference that do not want Obamacare repealed, because of their district. That's the fundamental thing that we're seeing here."

Those tweaks you speak of can be quite devastating since it will be left to states (read Red deadbeat states) and those with preexisting health conditions will be hung out to dry. Or they will try and backdoor to eliminate the 3% tax on the wealthy subsidizing O'care.

That idea is now dead too.

The least expensive in general system would be a single payer. Just one plan for everyone. Covering cradle to grave ones total healthcare needs. This would eliminate the complexities and redundant paperwork we have now. But then we would have leaders who truly care about the citizens health.
Of course the industry would hate this approach. Part of the cost saving would be all the jobs lost because of the streamlining.
So just like tax reform will not be a complete one, because of all the jobs lost to those who get paid to do others taxes. Good meaningful reform to healthcare will never happen as long as lobbyist of the industry pull the strings.

Of course with single payer Aetna, United Healthcare, et. al. would cease to exist - kinda rough on their share holders and obscenely paid executive. boo hoo.

So, Trump called the House healthcare elimination bill "incredibly well crafted" when he was celebrating its passage by the House. Now, it's "mean". Well, that's positive progress, but now what are all the right wing nuts who were so vocal in their praise going to say? Our local Donny supporters must be perplexed. The rest of us simply understand that he's insane, and has absolutely no idea what he's doing.

He doesn't care what's in either bill. He just wants a "win" and he'll say anything at any time if he believes, in that instant, that it well help him get a "win." He stands for nothing.

As the U.S. Senate works on its version of a bill to replace Obamacare, a new report indicates that the Republican-backed plan called the American Health Care Act, or AHCA, lacks majority support across all states including the most conservative ones.
The New York Times conducted this research by analyzing data from several different polls and factoring in state and demographic profiles.
According to the publication, "Across all the states that voted for President Trump last year, we estimate that support for the A.H.C.A. is rarely over 35 percent."
