As opposed to being a liberal sentiment, I'd suggest it's a objective observation.

You're not surprised that I don't consider every person who ever wore a uniform a hero? I'm equally not surprised by your hero worship of anyone in uniform.
FWIW, I spent the first 37 years of my life surrounded by the US Army as an Army brat and a Dep't of Army civilian, much of it overseas. I met lots of smart, hard-working, even heroic people. I also met some of the most ignorant low-lives ever. If you are of the opinion that they're all heroes, it just goes to show that you have exactly zero experience in and/or around the military.

To my fellow vets hereabouts...happy vets day, scumbags. Anybody think they're a hero? PFFFFFffffftttt.......
I'd be very surprised if whelly spend a nano-second in uniform. None of us would have spewed out the chunks of his OP. Like he gets anything.

Whell is like a teenage girl (or a hooker hanging outside the front gate of Ft. Bragg). He gets all tingly at the sight of a man in uniform.

Back at ya, Ike! A "hero"?, Meh. I was a kid who needed a job.
I believe Mike said he was a Marine. Is that correct, Mike?

I'm noting a conspicuous absence of response from Whelly boy.
Howabout it Whelly, you a Vet?

HELL NO.
Did my job, and stayed out of trouble.
The whole time I was in the service I never met a fellow serviceman that did anything that could be described as heroic.
To be a hero you gotta do something way way way out of the ordinary as far as I am concerned.
We had some VC sappers that snuck onto our base and blew up our ammo dump.
Now that took some balls.
They might have made the grade as Heroes.

That's right. It only took me four years to figure that out. I got my biggest lesson when I thought I was being a good sailor, following orders and trying to report fraud. I got told, in no uncertain terms, to shut up and mind my own business.
The notion that "They are all our heroes." is the smoke screen the worst scumbags hide behind. Elevating any group above reproach invites trouble.

That statement is dead on. America is becoming a militatized police state. And I'm a Bagger, just ask TJ.
