I'm using Seamonkey with Flash. Maybe I'll try another browser. (I'm starting to dislike Seamonkey.. It's an open source version of the old Netscape Communicator with support from the Mozilla Project.) I'll report back.

Doh! All I had to do was turn on Closed Captioning! (But I've never found that necessary before.)

Not a spectacular Hollywood blockbuster movie but it's probably better off for it, being such a disgusting slice of our history. Well acted imo.
I just finished watching it.

It was pretty intense and IMO I think it was over dramatized.

I just don't believe there was that much violence against slaves on a regular basis as depicted in the movie.

That being said, I also believe that racism today is far more prevalent than many people would care to admit, and that the silly myth that I keep hearing from the right, ie. that white on black racism is a thing of the past and that it is whites that are now the victims of discrimination is absolutely ludicrous.

When I saw him I thought to myself "that dude looks a little like Brad Pitt, I wonder who he is"?

I have no idea how common extreme violence was back then, I've never read source documents from that time. I do know the slaver ships treated them like cattle or worse.

I agree racism is alive and well. I bet it always will be. Just ask a black friend if he's been pulled over for DWB lately.

Me, I'm tired of being held down by The Man!

There was never any prosecution of a lynching in the South until the middle of the 20th century. The first Federal anti-lynching law was passed in 1948.
I am sure there was much violence against slaves.

Looks like I was wrong then.

The damned cracker bastards of the 18th and 19th century were even worse than I had thought.

So let's not have any more of this getting misty eyed about how great the "Founding Fathers" were.

The point is today's bagger bastards would go right back to the way it was then in a heartbeat if they ever got the opportunity.

You know it's true.
