The sad fact is that I would imagine most junior enlisted people have it better than your average entry level minimum wage worker. The big difference is the housing (on base is rent free) and "free" health care make up for the low wages they get paid.
You would surprised at the BMWs I see at work being driven by Sailors and Marines. It is not because they get paid so much, but some of the single servicemen will squander their whole income on a huge car note, and have no money left over.

Actually, Robbin many young folks are joining the military these days because they see no future in a private sector that no longer provides the valuable benefits military service does; Fulltime work, medical benefits, educational benefits and a decent pension.
And, it's getting worse by the day.

Perhaps they were texting on their smart phones and Ipads......the sight of a welfare recipient with an Ipad really pisses off some people for some reason.

I suppose the good congressman has never met a Wal-mart worker. He's more concerned with alleged welfare fraud than with the idea that our welfare programs subsidise major corporations.

That is very true...I would rather be an E-1 working in the Navy than working at Walmart. Even if you have a good hourly wage, if you do not have adequate health care you are basically walking a tight rope. At least a guy or girl cleaning bilges in the engine room will be taken care of if they get sick...and their families too.

Yes...major corporations that most likely support right to work states to boot.
The lack of a decent minimum wage is a crime. It is way to low for 2013.
Especially with the devaluation of the dollar.

I was hoping you would start an opposite "Snap Shots of the Democratic Party, 21 Century Style" since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Of course finding funny material would be more difficult for that post.
