Seperation of church and state

Agreed, the First was intended to see that the state did not establish one religion but was to allow full freedom for people to practice whatever religion they choose.

If you have ever been to Colonial Williamsburg you would understand as there during colonial days it was C of E and attending Sunday service was mandatory. If you did not show up and the beadle came to your house and did not find you ill in bed you got to spend time in the stocks, summer or winter. Despite what seems to be popular mythology the founding fathers were deists, not specifically members of any sect.

These atheist, agnostic organizations, like the ACLU, are generally a right royal PITA.

a royal pain in the ass, yes. go too far? constantly. however, our government is increasingly legislating our morality. without groups such as these speaking out for seperation of church and state, where would our country head?
