Don't matter who's in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king.

He pretty much owned the Cains Ballroom in Tulsa, too. I still play the Bob Wills recordings that my Mom had.

Thought I was going to see my granddaughters' choir recital. A false bill of goods!

It was the BAND recital, the horror. A big school system too, when the 5th grade orchestra got ready to open the show I counted at least 13 violins and 2 cellos, and thought that's it, we're all going to be (not so) slowly tortured to death.

Flasks help. Anyway we were reprieved. The teacher had them play pizzicato (plucking), I felt like jumping up on stage and kissing her.

One little girl though, played the entire first movement of Vivaldis' something or the other (aforementioned flask in use lol), she was not perfect by a long shot but was already showing some technical mastery at her age doing things I wouldn't have dreamed of doing at 14 after 4-5 years of playing. Probably learning since she was a toddler? Asian of course

The overall band was really big. They even had 3 oboes and a double bass.

It was kinda funny, you could tell most in the audience had no real idea, classical is pretty much out of the mainstream overall I think. When the 6th grade strings were playing I watched the crowd and when one or all the players slid the bow sideways (usually at the same time ) the entire crowd would cringe as one
