I like Tom Coburn, even if he is an Okie.
It's stuff like this that may be helping to dull the influence of yer boy, Grover Norquist, and emboldening some Republicans to bail on his stupid pledge.

From at least the time of the dust bowl, Oklahoma has had a populist streak. Coburn seems to be the embodiment of two sometimes disparate elements of Oklahoma politics - it is staunch conservative, but with a populist bent. Even as the people my home state sends to Congress have a tendency to embarrass me, I can't help but like Coburn.

Spend billions on millionaires, so raise taxes?

Don't fret, it could be worse. You could have Pelosi, Boxer, Waxman, and Waters together with our beloved Governor Moonbeam and an Assembly full of assorted granola chomping nut jobs.

I feel for you. I grew up there and loved it.
Has the Gov scored any chicks, or is he still using the Linda Ronstadt thing to hide he's gay?

Pretty rough when Jerry Brown is the voice of reason in your state's politics. I admit a certain degree of admiration for him, but none whatsoever for anyone else in your rogues' gallery above.

He's now married. He married a female executive from The Gap clothing company. He even bought a home for 4 million. He doesn't seem quite as quirky has he did in the 1970s. That was indeed a strange living situation he had in Oakland.

I met him several times back in the early 1980s. He certainly had a flare for being odd. I think his greatest claim is that he pissed everyone off at some point. BTW, he's now our oldest governor, whereas he once was one of the youngest.
