One cannot equate children being slaughtered in schools with 'general' murders within a population or worse yet, inner cities. There are a lot of factors that contribute to these murders, but not so in schools.
Children in schools are easy targets confined to their classrooms. It also affects their mental health having to sit in a classroom wondering when the shots are going to ring out. Even most adults while not intimidated will be weary.
Yes, the odds are very low for a particular class room, but in the minds of the children, all they can and will think about is "will they be next". And we expect these children to actually learn in this environment while they wonder, "what the hell are we doing here".
Keep this up and schools will be closing because no parent will want to send their children to a school.
