He uses the word 'invasion' because it's NOT loaded for him, in this context. He does not see the influx as doing any great harm. Certainly nothing to justify the intentional and grievous harm blocking them would do. That, and the hate, are the moral hazard here. That's where the sin is.

I agree with Nailer: He had to be aware of the implication of "invasion".

The historical connotation: The armed invasion of Europe by Arabs/Muslims...e.g. 8th century invasion of Spain, 16th century Battle of Lepanto.
