As opposed to being a liberal sentiment, I'd suggest it's a objective observation.

Sad that Veteran's Day in today's USA is now partisan.

Put tripe like that in a left - leading magazine on Veterans Day, and it becomes so. I also question the judgement of Salon to run that column on Veterans Day.

You're not surprised that I don't consider every person who ever wore a uniform a hero? I'm equally not surprised by your hero worship of anyone in uniform.
FWIW, I spent the first 37 years of my life surrounded by the US Army as an Army brat and a Dep't of Army civilian, much of it overseas. I met lots of smart, hard-working, even heroic people. I also met some of the most ignorant low-lives ever. If you are of the opinion that they're all heroes, it just goes to show that you have exactly zero experience in and/or around the military.

To my fellow vets hereabouts...happy vets day, scumbags. Anybody think they're a hero? PFFFFFffffftttt.......
I'd be very surprised if whelly spend a nano-second in uniform. None of us would have spewed out the chunks of his OP. Like he gets anything.

Whell is like a teenage girl (or a hooker hanging outside the front gate of Ft. Bragg). He gets all tingly at the sight of a man in uniform.

On the Facebook flight deck veterans group today there was a discussion about restaurants that offer free meals to veterans on this day. It was good to see that most of the respondents appreciated the sentiment, but usually declined the free meal for various reasons; "I didn't join to get free meals.", "No thanks, I'd rather see it go to someone who needs it." etc., etc.........
Of course there were those who feel that, not only do they deserve it, but it's owed to them. "We protected their freedom, damn right they should show some gratitude!"............Those ones also tend to bitch about the president a lot. Make of that what you will.
